Wednesday Bible Study

Under the Adult Education Committee, a Wednesday morning Bible Study was started this year. The group meets at 9:30 each Wednesday for about an hour. This is a "do it yourself" group with many commentaries, study guides, reference books and opinions as they work through different books of the Bible. The group has looked at the David stories in Samuel and is currently examining the book of Revelation. The discussions are lively and fun filled. Everyone reads and talks about the lesson, but the listening seems to be the best part. All are welcome and coffee is always on.

Acolytes

The Acolyte program at EPLC involves youth seventh grade through high school. Upon entering the confirmation program (a two year study in the Christian faith) students are trained to assist in the worship services of the congregation. Acolytes serve as crucifer (the person who carries the processional cross), torch bearer (the person who carries the processional candle), communion attendant and other duties as needed. Acolytes serve on a rotating basis and are given schedules well in advance. It is a very important role and responsibility in the worship life of the congregation.

Coffee Hour

Coffee Hour is a time of fellowship that follows each of the first two Sunday worship services. Fair Trade coffee is served and is also available for purchase as well as Fair Trade Cocoa. Individuals and groups volunteer throughout the year to host Coffee Hour by providing treats and taking care of clean-up. Coffee Hour is not held during the summer. For more information about volunteering to host a Coffee Hour please call Barbara Smith at 773-775-5466.

Ushers

Sunday worship is serviced by two to four male or female volunteer ushers. Duties, for the most part, consist of preparing the sanctuary, greeting and directing worshipers, distributing programs, passing collection plates and tidying up for the next service. Volunteering as an usher is a pleasurable way to serve the congregation. Ask an usher for a chance to learn the ropes.

Altar Guild

We have many opportunities to serve the Lord. Altar Guild allows us to prepare the table (altar) with linens and paraments (seasonal colors), with wine and wafers (body and blood) for Holy Communion. The Altar Guild also fills the oil candles, polishes the silver and keeps the area clean and dust free. When Baptisms are scheduled, the Altar Guild prepares the water, oil, napkin, and candle. During other special events the Altar Guild decorates with plants. Volunteers are welcome, the group meets quarterly to schedule dates of service. For more information contact the church office 773-631-9131 or Diane@edisonparklutheran.org

Dorcas Circle

Dorcas Circle meets the third Tuesday of the month at 12:30pm in the North Hall of the church. There are no meetings in July and August. After a fellowship hour of dessert and coffee, we have a Bible study. We are currently using the "Lutheran Woman Today" as our guide. We welcome any woman who is interested. Contact Marion Boettner, our president at 773-763-4409.

Jubilant Circle

Information coming soon!

Sunshine Circle

The Sunshine Circle began in 1993 with a group of four members. We send birthday cards to members that are 75 years old or older. We also send Get Well cards and Sympathy cards as needed. Baptism cards are sent to children each year until they are 3 years old. We meet once a month. For more information contact the church office at 773-631-9131 or Diane@edisonparklutheran.org

Mission Quilt Makers

In 1980 a group of women gathered at Edison Park Lutheran Church for the first meeting of the quilters. We have been meeting twice a month ever since to assemble quilts that are displayed annually. To date the group has made over 3,000 quilts to give to Lutheran World Relief, Lutherdale and many other places where a warm quilt is needed. We would be happy to have you join us, no sewing skills needed. We meet the first and third Friday of the month, year round. Come when you can, it's a great time for fellowship!

If you would like to be part of this ministry please call Barbara Smith at 773-775-5466.

Mission Pie Makers

The Mission Pie Makers meet twice a month from late September through November before culminating with a bake sale the week before Thanksgiving. The Pie Makers welcome anyone who would like to peel an apple, cook cherries, mix dough, roll dough, fill a pie shell, or bag a pie for the freezer. Pies are sold frozen with baking instructions, except for Pumpkin pies which are baked the day before the sale.

The Mission Pie Makers began in 1997 to raise money in support of missionary work following the discontinuation of the Mission Bazaar in 1996. To date they have made over 1,200 pies and have donated $29,000 to various groups in the US and abroad. If you would like to know more about this ministry please contact Barbara Smith at 773-775-5466.

Senior Fellowship

Senior Fellowship meets the third Thursday of the month with the exceptions of January, July, and August. All members age 55 plus are invited to join and share Christian fellowship with our seniors. Meetings begin with an ecumenical worship service followed by a catered lunch costing $10.00. Entertainment follows the meal.

Our seniors also volunteer their time and talent to help with the Wednesday Lenten Lunches, prepare the monthly reminder, assemble Sunday bulletins and more. Throughout the year Seniors contribute to the life of our church.

Men's Breakfast

The Men's Breakfast is a gathering of Christian men who meet monthly on the second Saturday of each month at 7:30am at a local restaurant. The group is dedicated to the mission of getting to know each other on a "Dutch Treat" basis. After a short lesson and a table prayer of thanksgiving the breakfast is served and conversation continues. The location is noted in the Sunday bulletin.

Men's Softball

The "Altarnates" Men's 12" softball team plays at Rand Park on Dempster in Des Plaines. Games are on Thursday nights through the summer at various times from 6:30 to 9:30. This team is focused on playing competitive softball, but our main purpose is to bring together players, families, and fans for a time of fellowship. The active roster is limited to twenty men 18 years and older. If you are interested in joining us please contact Dale Ammentorp, 847-698-5016 or softball@edisonparklutheran.org

Co-Ed Volleyball

Co-Ed Volleyball meets Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30pm, October through May. We play at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Park Ridge (about 10 blocks West of EPLC). Players of any skill level are invited to join us, you need not be a church member to play. Fees are collected as needed to cover the cost of renting the gym. The second Tuesday of each month is Youth Volleyball night (Jr. and Sr. High) from 7:30 to 8:45pm.

For more information contact Jake Kohlhaas, 773-631-9131, or volleyball@edisonparklutheran.org.
